The Llamas of Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is one of the world’s best known archeological sites, but it’s also home to a photogenic herd of llamas! Llamas were domesticated and used as pack animals by Andean inhabitants for centuries, and a recent study indicates that this famous Incan city may have come to exist as a result of the massive amounts of organic llama-generated fertilizer.
